How to Use Apple Worm Video Walkthroughs Without Just Copying

A walkthrough can clear a level for you, but it can also teach the pattern behind the solution. The difference is how you watch it. Copying every input solves one screen; understanding the setup helps with the next ten levels.

Try Once Before Watching

Spend one serious attempt reading the level. Locate the apple, portal, tightest turn, and any shared corridor. Even a failed attempt gives you questions to bring to the video.

Without that attempt, every movement looks equally important. With it, you can recognize the exact decision that separates the successful route from yours.

Watch the Whole Solution Once

On the first viewing, do not pause. Look for the broad structure:

• Does the route go directly to the apple or set up first?
• Is there a loop used to move the tail?
• From which direction does the worm enter the portal?

This creates a map of the solution before you focus on individual inputs.

Use Three Checkpoints

Pause at these moments:

1. Immediately before the apple is collected.
2. The first stable shape after the worm grows.
3. The beginning of the final portal approach.

Match the entire body, not only the head. If your body differs at a checkpoint, rewind to the previous one instead of forcing the remaining moves.

Reduce Playback Speed Carefully

Slower playback helps with quick inputs, but excessive pausing can hide the reason for a sequence. First identify what the sequence accomplishes: clearing the tail, preserving support, or changing the entry angle. Then reproduce it.

Compare the First Divergence

When your attempt fails, compare it with the video and find the first different move. The final trapped position may be ten inputs after the actual mistake. Correcting the first divergence is more reliable than improvising near the end.

Replay from Memory

After finishing, restart and solve using only the three checkpoints. If you can explain why each detour exists, you learned the pattern. If not, revisit the relevant section of the walkthrough.
